The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon presented by Colonial First State aims to raise much needed funds for charity. In 2013, we are excited to introduce a special ‘gold charity entry’, perfect for those who would like to make fundraising the focus of their event experience. Similar to other famous runs, like the London Marathon, these entries are strictly limited.
What are charity entries? Choose from a list of high profile Australian charities to run and raise funds for, including Breast Cancer Network Australia. Gold Charity runners will start up front on race day in amongst the Blue Start group.
Please note, as places are limited, charities choose to allocate the entries to runners on the strength of their commitment to fundraising. Fundraising targets will be set by the individual charities, but the average target will be around $1,200.
As a Gold Charity entrant, your race pack will be available for collection from the exclusive Gold Charity booth at the Half Marathon Event Expo.
For safety reasons, any wheelchair entrants who are part of the Gold Charity Program must start from the Back of the Pack.
How do I apply for a charity entry? To apply for a charity entry, you'll need to contact your chosen charity directly via the link below and see if they have places available.

How do I enter once I am accepted? Once you have been accepted for a Gold Charity Entry, you will receive an email from your chosen charity detailing relevant information and the next steps involved in securing your position.
Search the charity listings and get in touch with your charity. When should I apply for a charity entry? The sooner the better, once the allocation has been reached these entries will be closed.
I work for a charity; how do I get entries in the scheme? If you are interested in becoming involved as a Gold Charity, please email for more information.
Other ways to fundraise If the Gold Charity entry isn’t for you, you can still choose to raise funds for another cause close to your heart by setting up your own online fundraising page. With more than 700 charities on board this is a simple way to be involved and have your friends and family donate.
